What is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel (also
known as biofuel) is an alternative fuel produced from renewable
sources such as vegetable oils, recycled cooking oils, and
animal fats. Biofuel is much cleaner than fossil-fuel diesel
(AKA dinodiesel). It can be used in any diesel engine.
Some forms of Biodiesel might require some engine modifications.
What is Biofuel No. 2?
Biofuel No. 2 is
the next generation of biodiesel. Biofuel Basics created a new
way to make biodiesel in less than five minutes. It is so simple
to make, that anybody can make it at their home. It requires no
engine modifications, and offers a number of advantages, that
can help accelerate biodiesel adoption around the world. It is
safe to make, and costs only 45 cents per gallon.
Do I need to
modify my vehicle for Biofuel No. 2?
No. This new type
of Biodiesel is considered to be “drop in technology”. Biofuel
No 2 requires no engine modifications.
Can you mix Biodiesel with Diesel Fuel?
Yes. Biodiesel is
typically blended with petroleum diesel in formulations referred
to as B2 (two percent biodiesel, 98 percent petroleum diesel),
B5 (5 percent and 95 percent), B20 (20 percent and 80 percent),
etc. Though biodiesel is most commonly used in these kinds of
blends, it can also be used in its pure form (B100).
Can gasoline engines run on Biodiesel?
No. Biodiesel can
only be used in diesel engines. Most countries are switching to
diesel powered vehicles, because of the biodiesel advantage.
Will Biodiesel harm my Diesel Engine?
No. The diesel
engine was invented to run on vegetable oil. Your engine will
run better and last longer. It will enhance the lubrication of
your diesel engine by up to 66%. It will also lower your
maintenance cost.
Can Biodiesel help our economy?
Yes. Biodiesel has
a positive impact on the balance of trade. The spending to
import petroleum sends significant amounts of dollars out of our
domestic economy every year. Biodiesel offers the potential to
shift this spending from foreign imports to domestically
produced energy. Biodiesel offers the immediate potential to
reduce our demand for petroleum.
Is Biodiesel
approved for use in the USA?
Yes. Biodiesel is
the only alternative fuel in the US to complete EPA Tier I
Health Effects Testing under section 211(b) of the Clean Air
Act, which provide the most thorough inventory of environmental
and human health effects attributes that current technology will
allow.
Can Biodiesel help stop global warming?
Yes. A biodiesel
lifecycle study, jointly sponsored by the US Department of
Energy and the US Department of Agriculture, concluded biodiesel
reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 78% compared to petroleum
diesel.
Is there a difference in performance?
No. Biodiesel has a
higher cetane number than petroleum diesel fuel. Biodiesel is
similar in fuel consumption, horsepower, torque, and haulage
rates as conventional diesel fuel.
